Each slab is unique, so it is vital that you closely inspect your choice.
How to Clean and Seal Granite
Granite needs to be cleaned and sealed in order to remain waterproof. Since granite is slightly porous, there is a risk of mold formation if it is not properly sealed. This is a serious concern if you are installing granite in a kitchen or bathroom. The first thing you should do to regularly combat mold forming on granite is clean it on a regular basis. Use special granite cleaning liquids and try to avoid using heavy bleaches or degreasers. These can actually rub the shine off of the granite. Sealant should be applied once at least once a year if you use your granite countertops on a daily basis. If you are frequently preparing raw food on your counters, you may want to reseal the granite more often.
The sealant is very simple to apply. It can basically be rubbed onto the granite, allowed to soak in for a few minutes, and then rubbed off. You can apply multiple coats of sealant for a stronger finish.Share
